Colorado Fly Fishing

Winter 2015

To Snow or Not to Snow...

It seems like Winter got here too soon but it is here, so stop whining and go fishing anyway. Bundle up, grab your rod, flies and a change of clothes (just in case) and get out there! Barring having 'chunky monkeys' in the water, fishing can still be pretty good in the colder weather.  We've seen epic days in both sunny or snowy conditions.

The flows on the Fryingpan River have been bumped up from about 100 cfs to 125 cfs. It is good for the fish and bugs. You may even find a 'mysis hatch' near the dam. Don't forget the TP!

The Roaring Fork River is mostly clear of ice now but that can change quickly. Just stay away from the areas with 'anchor ice' on the rocks in the river, that usually shows a very cold section of river.

The Colorado River  has some bank ice but it diminishes as you move west from GWS. This, of course, is subject to change from day to day. No bug action has been reported but keep your eyes and ears open when you are out there, you may just find a pod of trout sipping midges. sshh!

Call us before you come up for the most up-to-date conditions. Stop by one of our shops to stock up on the best flies for where you plan on fishing. For more details see our Roaring Fork Valley River Flow information page. We are also home to the Roaring Fork Valley Fishing Report.

Check out our Closeouts! We just cut prices even further on Orvis Endura Waders (Men's & Women's),  Simms Freestone Stockingfoot Waders (Men's), Feestone Boot, Rivertek Boot, Rivershed Boot & Patagonia Rock Grip Wading Boots.

Fly Fishing Guide Trips

Roaring Fork Anglers, Alpine Angling and our select guides have been chosen Best Local Guide Service since 2004. Since 1980 we’ve done Colorado Fly Fishing Guide Trips on Roaring Fork Valley waters and beyond.

From Fly Fishing in Aspen to Fly Fishing in Rifle, We also hold outfitting permits for float and wade fishing on the Roaring Fork River, upper and lower Colorado River & Eagle River. We also offer wade fishing on both the Frying Pan River and the Crystal River, and have access to several private ranches and spring creeks that are capable of producing trophy trout.

Check out our Roaring Fork Valley Fly Fishing Report for recent activity of fish and bugs.

With the help of a long time outfitter of the Gunnison Gorge, we are now booking three-day/two-night fly-fishing trips on the ‘Gunnie’ for 2014.
