The Lodging

Ascension Bay Lodge is set back about 50 yards from the water’s edge and has an

unobstructed view of the Caribbean Sea. We are located just at the town limits of

Punta Allen and it is a quiet, tranquil setting. Each of our six guestrooms include

two full size beds, full bath with amenities, dresser, and a desk with chairs. The

rooms have “American style” electrical connections and wifi internet access. Four

of the guestrooms are located upstairs in the main lodge, one guestroom is located

downstairs in the main lodge and there is one guestroom upstairs in the back

house. Our bar and dining room are located downstairs in the main lodge.

What Is Included

Rates include boats, 3 meals per day, lodging, non alcoholic beverages on boats,

local fishing guide (one guide per two anglers), and fishing licenses. Ground transportation from

Cancun International airport to the lodge is included in the advertised rates. Not included in

advertised rates are alcoholic beverages. Not included in advertised rates are airline tickets and

other related costs, gratuities baggage overweight charges, separate boats for non-fisherman,

costs of itinerary modifications. Arrangements can be made for overnight stays in Cancun or the

surrounding area for an extra charge when necessary.

A deposit of 50% of the advertised cost of the trip is required to secure a

reservation. Balance due 120 days prior to departure. Airfare costs, purchase requirements, and

arrangements are the responsibility of the guests. Alpine Angling & Adventure Travel can assist

in these arrangements. Deposits are non-refundable unless a replacement is found. A $100 fee

will be charged to cover costs associated with cancellations.

Valid Passport or raised seal copy or original birth certificate and drivers license

or other acceptable photo ID is required to enter and leave Mexico.

Target Species

Ascension Bay is a massive protected wilderness area home to large populations of

permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook and many other flats species that can all be caught

on the fly. There are many different ecosystems to explore from seemingly endless

permit flats to backcountry mangrove lagoons filled with snook and tarpon.

Our expert guide teams lead anglers into this fishing paradise each day in search of

their target species. Each guide team is composed of a senor guide and a junior

guide who work together throughout the day managing the boat and assisting

anglers in spotting and landing fish. Typically, the senor guide is in charge of

maneuvering the boat and spotting fish from the polling platform in back, while the

junior stands with the angler up front and assists with line management and

spotting the fish. All of our guides are able to communicate in English and they are

all really good people.

Fishing Program

The typical fishing day begins at 8am, although that often changes due to weather,

tides, or fish activity. Each morning the guides will meet anglers at the lodge and

assist them to their boats. Before fishing, we will discuss the options for the day

with the guides. While most anglers come to Ascension Bay to chase permit on the

flats, there are many other species and habitats in the bay to explore and it is

important that the guides and anglers are on the same page about what the

expectations are for the day.

Once on the water, the guides and anglers will make the run into the bay.

Ascension Bay is enormous and the initial run from the lodge can take anywhere

between 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on what species you’re after where your

guide decides to start the day. Typically, the guides will move to several different

spots throughout the day in the search for fish.
